About Mount Kilimanjaro

Rising majestically from the African plains, Mount Kilimanjaro is not only Africa's highest peak but also the world's tallest free-standing mountain. Its snow-capped summit, Uhuru Peak, draws thousands of climbers each year seeking to stand on the 'Roof of Africa.'

Unlike other major peaks, Kilimanjaro requires no technical climbing experience. The trek takes you through five distinct ecological zones: cultivated farmland, lush rainforest, heath and moorland, alpine desert, and finally the arctic summit zone. Each zone has its own unique flora and fauna.

The mountain is home to unique species found nowhere else on earth, including the Kilimanjaro tree hyrax and several endemic plants. The glaciers at the summit, though receding, remain one of Africa's few permanent ice fields and offer spectacular views at sunrise.
