Tarangire National Park
Land of Giant Baobabs & Elephants
Tarangire is famous for its massive elephant herds, ancient baobab trees, and tree-climbing pythons. The Tarangire River is the lifeblood of this park, attracting huge concentrations of wildlife during the dry season.
About Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park is Tanzania's sixth-largest park, covering 2,850 square kilometers of undulating countryside dominated by the Tarangire River. During the dry season, this river becomes a magnet for wildlife, creating some of the highest wildlife concentrations in Tanzania.
The park is renowned for its giant baobab trees, some estimated to be thousands of years old. These ancient sentinels dot the landscape and provide homes for numerous bird species and tree-climbing pythons. The park has one of the largest elephant populations in Tanzania, with herds of up to 300 individuals commonly seen.
Beyond elephants, Tarangire offers excellent wildlife viewing including lions, leopards, cheetahs, and the rare oryx. Over 550 bird species have been recorded, making it a paradise for bird watchers. The park's relatively quiet atmosphere compared to the Serengeti provides an intimate safari experience.
